Statement of Support of the Energy Regulatory Commission’s (the “Commission’s”) Chairperson, Atty. Monalisa Dimalanta (“Chairperson Dimalanta”)
The members of the Retail Electricity Suppliers Association of the Philippines (“RESA”, or the “Association”), the premier association of competitive retail electricity suppliers in the country, expresses the Association’s profound concern with the recent decision of the Ombudsman to suspend Chairperson Dimalanta.
The impact of the Ombudsman’s decision on suspending Chairperson Dimalanta extends beyond her professional career as it would also greatly affect the Commission, industry, and public. This could not only disrupt and further delay the implementation of the Commission’s rules and policies, which heavily relies on the Chairperson’s leadership, but it could likewise hinder the timely and efficient provision of services that are vital to the public.
In light of these concerns, we sincerely hope that this matter will be resolved as soon as possible. The retail electricity suppliers are already facing complex issues on energy security, it is even more crucial that the Commission remains stable and effective to ensure continuous access to sustainable and reliable power solutions. The Chairperson’s absence at this critical time would severely undermine the effectiveness of the Commission and impede the operations of not just the retail electricity suppliers but the whole energy sector.
